When You Should Schedule an Electrical Inspection
Several situations make an electrical inspection particularly valuable:
- Buying or selling a home is one of the most common reasons for inspections. Buyers want to know what they’re getting, and sellers benefit from identifying and addressing issues before they derail a sale. A professional electrical inspection gives both parties clear information.
- Older properties often have electrical systems that were installed to standards that are now outdated. If your home is more than 25 years old and hasn’t had electrical work recently, an inspection can identify components that need attention.
- Recent renovations sometimes reveal or create electrical issues. If you’ve had work done on your property, an inspection confirms that everything is properly connected and functioning safely.
- Frequent electrical issues like tripping breakers, flickering lights, or outlets that don’t work reliably suggest underlying problems worth investigating. An inspection identifies the source of these symptoms.
Each of these scenarios connects to safety, code compliance, or peace of mind. Inspections provide the information you need to make informed decisions about your property’s electrical system.
Home Electrical Inspections for Safety & Peace of Mind
Your home’s electrical system affects your family’s safety every day. A home electrical inspection ensures that the wiring, panels, outlets, and connections protecting your family are in good condition.
We inspect for issues that could put your family at risk. Faulty wiring, overloaded circuits, improper connections, and outdated components all present potential hazards. Identifying these issues through inspection allows you to address them before problems occur.
Your property is a significant investment. Electrical problems can cause fires, damage appliances, and create expensive repair situations. Protecting that investment through regular inspection makes financial sense.
Home electrical inspections are not DIY projects. Online checklists might help you spot obvious problems, but a thorough inspection requires training, experience, and knowledge of electrical codes. Our licensed electricians know what to look for and how to evaluate what they find.
After your inspection, you’ll receive clear information about your system’s condition and any recommended actions. No confusing technical jargon, just straightforward explanations you can use to make decisions.
What Our Electrical Inspections Help Identify
A thorough electrical inspection examines your entire system, looking for issues that might not be visible during daily use.
- Outdated wiring is common in older properties. Knob-and-tube wiring, cloth-covered wiring, and aluminium wiring may all present safety concerns depending on their condition and installation. We identify these older materials and assess their condition.
- Overloaded circuits often develop gradually as homeowners add devices and appliances over time. An inspection reveals circuits carrying more load than they should, which prevents breaker trips and reduces fire risk.
- Unsafe connections include loose wiring, improper splices, and DIY work that doesn’t meet code. These connections can cause arcing, overheating, and fires. We check accessible connections throughout the system.
- Code violations from previous work sometimes surface during inspections. Work that wasn’t permitted or inspected may have been done incorrectly, creating safety issues that need correction.
- Panel condition matters for your entire electrical system. We examine your electrical panel for proper sizing, signs of wear or damage, and adequate capacity for your current and future needs.
Early detection through inspection saves money and reduces risk. Finding a problem during an inspection is always preferable to discovering it through a fire, damage, or electrical failure.

I had a few ceiling fans and light fixtures replaced as well as GFI outlets changed. I was also able to get new wired fire alarms installed the same day. I would definitely recommend Reed Electrical for any electrical work you need done.Posted on Google Jim GallaherTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had an issue with a couple entryway switches where two of the switches turned on both the porch light and entryway light at the same time instead of turning on/off each one independently. This was one of those 100 issues on the repair list that I finally got around to addressing. I took a look at the switch to see if I could figure out the issue, but after seeing that the wiring appeared to be done incorrectly and one wire actually came loose during my inspection, I said yeah... I have no idea what they did (Previous ownership) and I'm not messing around with it. So, I put everything back and called Reed. Peter came over and quickly confirmed that the switch was wired incorrectly, explained what they did wrong, and had it wired back the correctly to where both lights now turn on/off independently. I will certainly call Reed Electrical again in the future to have an inspection done to make sure there are no other issues to be concerned about. Thank you for the prompt service! Edit-Note: The picture of the switch's wiring is how I originally discovered it and how it was BEFORE it was corrected. Unfortunately, I do not have an after picture to show. You'll just have to take my word that it is now wired and working correctly. lolPosted on Google Kathy MittelTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had a new lighting fixture installed as well as several outlets. The service was exceptional as always. The work was scheduled promptly and completed to my satisfaction. I highly recommend Reed Electrical Services.
