Signs You Need an Electrical Panel Upgrade
Your electrical panel works hard every day, and sometimes it sends signals that it’s time for an upgrade. Watch for these warning signs:
- Breakers that trip frequently, especially under normal household loads
- A warm or hot panel box, which can indicate overloading or failing components
- Limited power capacity that can’t support new appliances or technology
- An outdated fuse box is still in use instead of a modern circuit breaker panel
- Burning smells near the panel or elsewhere in the home
- The inability to add new circuits for renovations or additions
Any of these symptoms warrants an inspection by a licensed electrician. Don’t ignore them — contact Reed Electrical to schedule an assessment before a manageable issue becomes a dangerous one.

A residential electrical panel upgrade from Reed Electrical gives your home the capacity it needs to handle current and future demands. Here’s what homeowners gain from upgrading:
- Support for new appliances without tripping breakers or straining circuits
- Capacity for home renovations and room additions
- The ability to add EV chargers, smart home systems, and modern HVAC equipment
- Improved home safety and reduced fire risk
- Better insurance rates and increased resale value

Commercial Electrical Panel Upgrades for Businesses
For businesses in Orland Park, electrical downtime isn’t just frustrating; it’s costly. An outdated commercial electrical panel limits your operational capacity, creates safety risks, and can leave you out of compliance during inspections.
Reed Electrical Services has extensive experience with commercial electrical panel upgrades for businesses of all sizes. We understand that keeping your operations running is a top priority, which is why we plan every project carefully to minimize downtime and disruption.
Our commercial panel upgrade services address capacity limitations, code compliance requirements, and the need to support business expansion. From retail locations and office buildings to warehouses and industrial facilities, we deliver professional panel upgrades that keep your business powered and protected.
Electrical Panel Replacement vs. Upgrade: What's Right for You?
Not every panel issue requires a full replacement, and not every upgrade goes far enough to address the real problem. The right solution depends on the age, condition, and capacity of your existing panel, as well as your current and future electrical demands.
A panel upgrade typically involves increasing the amperage or capacity of your existing system, while a full replacement involves removing and replacing the entire panel with a new unit. Both are valid solutions depending on the situation, and both require professional evaluation to determine the best path forward.
That’s why we always recommend starting with an on-site evaluation. Our licensed electricians will assess your panel, listen to your needs, and recommend the most cost-effective and safe solution, whether that’s an upgrade, a full replacement, or something in between. This is not a DIY decision, and an experienced electrician’s recommendation is the safest way to move forward.

I had a few ceiling fans and light fixtures replaced as well as GFI outlets changed. I was also able to get new wired fire alarms installed the same day. I would definitely recommend Reed Electrical for any electrical work you need done.Posted on Google Jim GallaherTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had an issue with a couple entryway switches where two of the switches turned on both the porch light and entryway light at the same time instead of turning on/off each one independently. This was one of those 100 issues on the repair list that I finally got around to addressing. I took a look at the switch to see if I could figure out the issue, but after seeing that the wiring appeared to be done incorrectly and one wire actually came loose during my inspection, I said yeah... I have no idea what they did (Previous ownership) and I'm not messing around with it. So, I put everything back and called Reed. Peter came over and quickly confirmed that the switch was wired incorrectly, explained what they did wrong, and had it wired back the correctly to where both lights now turn on/off independently. I will certainly call Reed Electrical again in the future to have an inspection done to make sure there are no other issues to be concerned about. Thank you for the prompt service! Edit-Note: The picture of the switch's wiring is how I originally discovered it and how it was BEFORE it was corrected. Unfortunately, I do not have an after picture to show. You'll just have to take my word that it is now wired and working correctly. lolPosted on Google Kathy MittelTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had a new lighting fixture installed as well as several outlets. The service was exceptional as always. The work was scheduled promptly and completed to my satisfaction. I highly recommend Reed Electrical Services.
